Press Release- From The Northeastern PA
Transplant Support Group, Inc
For Immediate Release
Donor Walk - May 16, 2009
East Stroudsburg, PA-The Northeastern
Pennsylvania Transplant Support Group, Inc. is hosting a donor
walk on Saturday May 16th, 2009. The walk is being held to raise
awareness of the need for organ donation. Nearly 95,000 people
across the United States are in need of an organ donation. Almost
1,100 people in Northeastern PA alone are in need of an organ
transplant. The walk this year will start at Courthouse Square
in Stroudsburg at 11:30 a.m. with registration begining at 10:30
a.m. and end at Dansbury Park in East Stroudsburg. A picnic
will be held at the end of the walk for all participants and
their families. Business groups and individuals are encouraged
to participate. The group’s founder, a two time liver
recipient, Howard Kindred, Sr., had this to say about organ
donation,” You never know when you or a loved one in your
family will need an organ transplant.” “It is hard
sometimes to find a organ donor with your blood type, because
an individual donor must say yes to organ donation. There are
so many people on the UNOS waiting list for organs, 18 people
a day die awaiting an organ donor. But in all cases where an
organ is provided someone cared enough to say “yes”
I will give of my organs & tissues, when I die, so that
someone else may live.”
Howard believes that education is
the key for transplant candidates, recipients and donor families.
